From Dictionary.com, today’s word is “nosophobia” which refers to an abnormal fear of disease.
When I hear that definition, I think of Howard Hughes, an extremely rich man who shut himself off from the world because of his fear of germs.
I must confess that there’s some of that spirit in me. I hold dearly the “ounce of prevention” rule and this has me do whatever I know I can to keep from getting sick. I believe the main thing that keeps me from developing an unhealthy obsession is the fact that I’m aware of the danger.
On another note, I wonder who gets to define what “abnormal” is?
